****Excruciating Calf Cramp**** PLEASEEEEEE HELP!!? OK, I have had calf cramps in the middle of the darkness...

OK, I have had calf cramps in the middle of the dark before which is no problem. But, 4 days ago I woke up with the pain within my calf as if I did have a calf cramp the night before, and I enjoy had it ever since. I have yet to take a full blown cramp in my right calf yet but there be several points in the past 4 days were I have to pull my leg back to stop it from cramping. I cannot walk, I cannot bring back up after I sit down, and it is just EXTREMELY pain full. The best way I can describe it is walking around beside a calf cramp for 4 days. I have looked everywhere and the longest I have found that a cramp lasted for someone is possibly 4 hours. Also the day before the "cramp" started I did not do any activity out of the dreary, so Its not like I injured my calf or anything the pain started one morning (I'd like to right to be heard Tuesday, today is Friday) and I have had it ever since. I have massage it, put hot towels on it. took hot showers, stretched, I drink more than 8 glasses of water a day, surrounded by the past 2 day's I have had over 3 Gallons of Gatorade, I did pretty much everything article I could think of. Can ANYONE PLEASEEEEEE HELP ME?? Has anyone ever experienced this before? Have any remedies? ANYTHING?? I' am stuck without my doctor until Monday, and this backache is so bad I' am seriously considering the Emergency Room. Please Please can anyone out there help? Thank you surrounded by advance.
Answers:    Go Cowboys!! (Love your logo, I live in Texas.) I am a Trauma nurse, so serious injuries are my specialty. First off...these types of leg cramps are from an inconsistency of sodium (salt) and potassium. Two of the electrolytes in your body, but the two MAJOR electrolytes responsible for muscle cramps. Try to eat foods higher within salt and potassium: pretzels are a great source of salt, a soda or two to drink wouldn't hurt either (most sodas approaching Coke are high in sodium)...and as for potassium, baked potatoes, strawberries, and bananas are fabulous. Eat at least one massive banana before bed time and this will help. Slow up on the water for the subsequent 4 or 5 days as it is flushing the electrolytes out of your system faster than you can replenish them. ;0) In the mean time, the pain you're feeling is a middle-of-the-road (severe) muscle ache as a result of extreme cramping... Soak in a hot tub with 1 cup of Epsom saline in the water for 20 minutes (you can buy Epsom salt at ANY pharmacy: Wal-mart, Albertson's, Kroger, CVS, etc.), do this twice a afternoon (morning and evening) for a few days. Epsom salt contains (of course) sodium, but a high magnesium count as well and magnesium is the mineral that allows our muscle tissues to increase the amount of blood flow through the tissues...increased blood flow is what make tissues heal. :0) And after the bath, use a muscle rub, put on some sweats to keep your muscles reheat, and take 800mg. of ibuprofen (name brands are Motrin or Advil). 800mg. of ibuprofen is prescription strength so only take this highly developed amount every 6 to 8 hours as needed for pain. If you have any other questions, I'm content to help... just IM me or email me. Hope you feel better soon! :0)
